Same project, same instructions, different materials, very different context. Working with Teachers on the MA at Institute of Education and a group of teachers on the Tate’s Common Projects. At Middlesex University with first year fine Artist students and with sixth formers at Camden Arts Centre. We constructed cinemas and filmed the process of construction. At the end we projected the film of construction in the cinemas.
In Tate the group split into two and were in rooms with very different works which came to influence what was made, the works on the wall being filmed as part of the documentation of process.
At the IoE the two groups made very different cinemas as they used the furniture in the room to construct larger structures, which were more enclosed. Whereas at Middlesex students divided into groups and used left over materials to build or block out the light with very different results. At Camden the sixth formers used easels bit also their own jackets, the different structure often mirrored the group dynamic.
